Project: The Maya Stories for the Army Pink Wellness Portal
Client: Army Pink
Role: Animator
Army Pink is a nonprofit that supports domestic violence survivors, particularly by providing transportation to safety. For this project, the founder wanted to create something different from Army Pink’s flagship explainer videos about its programs. Instead, this would be a series of animated episodes following Maya, the central character in the Army Pink universe, and introducing more characters.
The episodes have no dialogue, so the visuals and animation played an outsize role in storytelling and, more importantly, communicating Maya’s emotions. With no budget or illustrator on hand, I had to use free music and sound effects and either repurpose graphics from the flagship videos or create new ones based on them. Each episode came with written direction, and it was up to me to develop those concepts into scenes and compositions.
I was responsible for creating two episodes, including the very first one, which I’ve shared above.
